What is sacral tuberous ligament?

The sacral tuberous ligament is a band of fibrous tissue located in the pelvic region. It attaches to the posterior side of the sacrum (the large bone at the base of the spine) and stretches out to the ischial tuberosity (the bone that forms the lower part of the pelvis).

This ligament has various functions in the body, including stabilizing the sacroiliac joint and providing attachment points for several nearby muscles. It also helps to support the weight of the body during activities like sitting and standing.

Injuries or issues with the sacral tuberous ligament can cause pain or discomfort in the pelvic region. Treatment may involve physical therapy, pain management techniques, and in some cases, surgery.
